We have really hard water here. I'm getting close to shelling out for a water softener, but in the meantime, my toilets are awful. They get this crusty whitish-greenish-reddish ring and look filthy. The showers get calcium deposits too but nothing like the toilet. I can't keep them clean. I use a few of the disposable cleaning wands but they don't get it all gone. Anyone have any cleaning or better yet prevention tips?

Hmm, I wonder if I can put some in the resivoir? It's not feasible for me to take a brillo to 4 toilets daily, and it's embarrassing looking if I don't :(

Get a water softener! The toilets are the least of your problems if the water is that bad. All of that crap is in your pipes and your hot water heater too and cause a lot of damage. A regular water softener will cost you about $500 or so. You can also rent them for $20 a month. We did that when we first moved to Utah.

Yeah, that its good advice. We've only lived in our house 7 years and we've had to replace the water heater 3 times because of the hard water.

We are in the same boat!! So we are saving up to get a softener. Our dishes are horrid. I can't use my dishwasher or they are just filmy and gross covered in calcium and junk!! We just use bleach on the toilets. For the shower I got arm and hammer shower cleaner w/ bleach and its been working really well. Also, if you get hte after shower spray (i forget what its called sorry, nad i'm currently out)and use that as soon as you're done showering it really helps the build up stay away!!

I think I'm going ot have to suck it up. I found one online, GE, with really good reviews, at home depot for $346. If I can get the installation for $150 or less I'll be happy. I'll go check it out tomorrow.

:idk: I can ask my friend who lives in Vegas (well my mom's friend) but not sure if she is on fb anymore. I remember a long long long long time ago when I was in Vegas we stayed with her and she said that there is lime in the water. It sucked.
